As of May 2011, there’s six Frank Lloyd Wright houses on the market in Chicago. The latest to be listed is the Perry house, which is located at 272 Sylvan Drive in Glencoe. Unlike many of the other Wright homes for sale in Chicagoland, this one is being sold as-as and is in need of a bit of TLC, or so the Prudential Rubloff listing says. Then again, it also is the lowest priced–at $699,000–of all the Wright houses currently on the market as of May 10, 2011.
The Wright Perry house is made of stucco and wood, and was once called “a fireproof house for $5,000.” The Perry home is situated in the Ravine Bluffs Development subdivision of Glencoe, which was originally commissioned by Wright himself in 1915, so all six homes are Wright designs. As a reminder- if you buy through CondoDomain, you’ll get 20% cash back!
The Perry house currently sits on a third of an acre lot just a few blocks from Glencoe’s ravine bluffs. The home offers three bedrooms, one full bath, and one half bath.
The northern suburb of Glencoe is typically considered an upper income community, so the $699K price is actually quite a deal for this home, despite the remodeling that may need to be done. As can be seen from the below CondoDomain MLS listings, it’s not uncommon for the grand estates of Glencoe to be listed well over a million dollars. These home values come, in no small part, due to the community’s focus on good architecture. Wright’s house in Ravine Bluffs is just another example of that.
