For years students and art lovers interested in checking out the DePaul Art Museum (DPAM) collection were forced to suffer the low ceilings and small, cramped rooms of the Richardson Library’s exhibition space in the Loop.
Last month, however, DPAM moved its collection to a new, improved location at 935 W. Fullerton Avenue. The new exhibition space features high ceilings, filtered light and nearly twice as much square footage as the Richardson Library.

“I imagine that I’ll be coming far more often,” Logan Square resident Andy Bolduc said when asked about the museum’s new home. “It’s only a short bus ride away from my apartment, and it’s literally steps away from the Fullerton Red Line stop. Its location is unbeatable, and its collection is better than ever.”
But Bolduc isn’t the only one who intends to start visiting DPAM and its Lincoln Park neighborhood more often. Other arty types have been moving to Lincoln Park in greater and greater numbers in recent years, and there’s no doubt that more of them will be moving in, now that another art museum has been added to the neighborhood.
Houses and condos have been selling particularly well in busy, artistically inclined areas of the neighborhood, like the intersection of Lincoln Avenue, Fullerton Avenue, and Halstead Street, where classy condos and stately single-family homes tend to cluster in the greatest numbers.
Listings like this one, found on the CondoDomain blog, have been selling like hotcakes lately, and real estate experts expect them to continue to do well as long as Lincoln Park maintains its charming, arty, intellectual character.
To find out more about Chicago’s wonderful neighborhoods, enter your information in the box on the right and a Rock Star Chicago Real Estate Agent will get in touch with you today!

Although fewer films are shot in Chicago than in the city’s coastal competitors, New York City and Los Angeles, some modern-day classics have been filmed and produced in the Chicago area. Among them is the 1993 Harrison Ford vehicle, The Fugitive. The Fugitive became a box office success shortly after its release, and it’s been seen by millions of people the world over. The Chicago area home featured in multiple scenes in the movie has also been seen by millions of people, and now, one lucky super fan can call that house his home, because, recently, the house featured in The Fugitive, has gone on sale.
According to the Press Room of the Huffington Post, the home went on the market last month:
“The lot on which it sits, 336 W. Wisconsin Avenue, is a stone’s throw from the Lincoln Park Zoo and was originally purchased from the city for $45,000 and developed by architect Ron Ysla in 1979. After he and his family completed the bottom two floors, they moved to Winnetka and sold the home to J. Roderick MacArthur. After MacArthur died in 1984, its current owner and occupant, Polish-born doctor Norbert Gleicher took it over. Gleicher reportedly met Ford and “The Fugitive” director Andrew Davis at a restaurant—and they hit it off to such an extent that some of the scenes from the film ended up being filmed there.”
The home, which is on the market for $3.95 million dollars, boasts many features, including an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, an elevator, a glass-floored catwalk, a three-car garage, a deck, and a spacious backyard.
Anyone interested in learning more about the home ought to check out a video tour of the home filmed for a recent episode of Open House. And anyone interested in learning more about additional luxury accommodations in the Chicago area ought to check out articles like this one on the CondoDomain blog!

Chicago is, perhaps more than most cities, a city of neighborhoods. From the broad boulevards of Lincoln Park to the arty avenues of Pilsen, each and every neighborhood in this city possesses its own distinct energy and unique charm. And each neighborhood is worth learning a little more about. So, every other week, we’ll be featuring another neighborhood on this section of the blog, and we’ll interview someone living in that neighborhood—Someone capable of giving us the inside scoop on their ‘hood!
This week CondoDomain sat down with Jenny Gelda and talked to her about her experience living in Lincoln Park. Jenny moved to Chicago from Boston, Massachusetts five years ago, and she’s been living in Lincoln Park for three of those years.
Why did you decide to move to Lincoln Park?
I wanted to live in a neighborhood that was safe, family friendly, and relatively close to the loop. I’m also a big fan of architecture, and I love the architectural style of many of the buildings in Lincoln Park.
Were you considering any other neighborhoods as well?
I also seriously considered moving to Streeterville, or the Gold Coast. But really, I probably could have been happy just about anywhere. There are few neighborhoods in Chicago that I genuinely dislike.
What do you like most about living in Lincoln Park?
I love the quietness and the restfulness I find here. It sometimes feels like I’m living in a small, sleepy little town—It just so happens that that town is embedded in one of the largest cities in the U.S. I really feel like I get the best of both of those worlds.
Is there anything you don’t like about living in Lincoln Park?
I sometimes wish I lived a little further away from the hustle and bustle of city life. But if I ever start to feel overwhelmed, I just spend an afternoon at the Lincoln Park Conservatory, or the Lincoln Park Zoo. The park is one of my absolute favorite places in Chicago—Or in the world, for that matter.
Do you intend to continue living in Lincoln Park?
Absolutely. When it comes right down to it, I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be!
For more information about Chicago and its vibrant neighborhoods check out this article on the CondoDomain blog!

Government officials have long attempted to ignore, or at least downplay, Chicago’s somewhat seedy past. The city government rarely mentions any of the famous gangsters of the 1920s who once made Chicago their home, and the government is understandably reluctant to point out any of the buildings that were the sites of famous shoot outs and arrests. Most city officials would be hesitant to lead tourists to the site of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, for instance.
The president of the preservation group Landmarks Illinois, Jim Peters, acknowledges that the city “has been very hesitant to glorify or recognize” its gangster glory.
“Capone’s onetime headquarters, the Lexington Hotel, was designated a Chicago landmark by the group for its architecture but was torn down in 1995. An effort to have Capone’s home added to the National Register of Historic Places failed.”
But recently, the National Register of Historic Places did decide to grant the Biograph Theater in Lincoln Park—the theater where John Dilinger was shot by FBI agents—landmark status, and many Chicagoans believe that more people will actually visit the theater now that they know about its infamous history. They also believe that the increase in tourism could bring an extra source of revenue to the neighborhood.

Elegant apartment buildings are scattered throughout neighborhoods like Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast. Edgy, arty lofts can be found in neighborhoods like Bucktown and Wicker Park. And many of Chicago’s museums and administrative buildings double as awe inspiring works of architecture.
There is so much great architecture in Chicago, in fact, that it can sometimes be hard to appreciate all of the architectural beauty of the buildings in Chicago.
For that reason, we’ve decided to feature a few of our favorite architectural triumphs on the CondoDomain blog this month. This week, we’ll be taking a closer look at our first architectural triumph:

The Miller House. This mid century modern masterpiece was designed by renowned architects Eero Saarinen, Alexander Girard and Daley Kiley. The building is actually located in Columbus, Indiana, but Saarinen, Girard, and Kiley spent most of their time working on the project in Chicago. Tours of the Miller House are available daily.

Lincoln Park 2520 may still be under construction on 3.25 acres of land at 2520 N. Lakeview, but it’s already shaping up to be the new standard in luxury living in Chicago. Designed by architect Lucien Lagrange, Lincoln Park 2520 offers amazing amenities inside and out of the 228 units spread across 39 floors. See photos here.
Buyers can choose from 50 different floor plans that range from one bedroom condominiums to four-bedroom units and full-floor penthouses. Due to the building’s angled position, it also offers exquisite views of not only Lake Michigan, but also North Pond, Diversey Harbor, Lincoln Park, and the city skyline. Many of these units also contain spacious balconies; in fact, one of the penthouses offers a stunning outdoor space of more than 2,500 square feet.
Inside the building, residents will also have access to a range of luxury amenities not often seen in condominiums throughout Chicago. In addition to a full-time concierge and 24-hour doormen and security, residents can use an indoor lap pool, sauna room, two massage treatment rooms, fitness center, billiards room, stretching/yoga room, private theater, kid’s room with an xBox and Wii, as well a club lounge area that includes a catering kitchen for private events.
Outside Lincoln Park 2520, residents have yet another oasis to enjoy. As Karoline Eigel, sales and marketing for the building, says, “The green space is unlike anything in the city.” Designed by landscape architect Thomas Balsley, a private 1.25-acre park just behind the building offers a resplendent getaway only available to residents and their guests. Explore the summer and winter gardens. Take a walk around the European fountain. Let you dog enjoy the dog exercise area and puppy paw wash while children enjoy the tot lot. This private area is surely a place to get away from it all, while still being only steps away from the exciting Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago.
Lincoln Park 2520 also boasts a 2.5 level underground parking garage. These spaces are deeded and are in addition to the cost of the unit. Residents can utilize the valet parking or park on their own. Guests too can use the space for a fee.
Lincoln Park 2520 is managed by Draper & Kramer, and deliveries will begin in the Spring of 2012. The sales model is located in the John Hancock building and is open Monday through Friday from 11:00a.m. to 5:30p.m., Saturday from noon to 3:00p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4:00p.m.
For more information about this evolution in elegance and to schedule a visit to the Lincoln Park 2520 sales office, please contact CondoDomain’s Kipp Blackburn at 312-730-3320.

The neighborhood of Lincoln Park has long been considered a great place to settle down and start a family. Many people also think of it as a wonderful neighborhood for single, young Chicagoans.

And now, with the construction of Lincoln Park 2520—a hot, new property designed to appeal to families and singletons alike—the neighborhood has never look more appealing.
Residents of Lincoln Park can enjoy iconic restaurants like Trattoria Roma and Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Co. They can often take advantage of the unparallel shopping experience offered by stores like Hanig’s Footwear and Kaveri. And the nature loving residents of Lincoln Park can spend their free time strolling through the area’s many parks and green spaces.
Lincoln Park is truly a neighborhood that appeals to everyone, and as such, it’s no surprise that the property at Lincoln Park 2520 has garnered so much early interest.

Mortgage delinquency rates improve in 2011 first quarter [marketwire.com]
The rate of mortgage delinquency has dropped to 6.19% in the first quarter of 2011, a new study from TransUnion reported today. The study analyzed U.S. consumers with active credit, particularly whether or not they were 60 or more days past due in paying their mortgage. Those that are past 60 days are considered delinquent.
This drop in mortgage delinquency rates is a good sign, especially considering analysts had estimated the rate would be the same or slow in comparison to 2010 rates. Rather, fewer people are getting behind in mortgage payments as compared to the last quarter of 2010 when the delinquency rate was 3 to 4% higher.
This improvement means that today’s borrowers are less risky, according to Tim Martin, the group VP of the U.S. Housing Market at TransUnion. Also according to Martin, this improvement can be attributed to more people staying put in their homes, rather than selling.
With these new numbers, TransUnion is now expecting the mortgage deliquency rate to continue improving throughout 2011, in large part due to better economic conditions as well as tighter lending standards.

In the western part of Lincoln Park in the Clybourn Corridor is a new Chicago development called the Fullerton Lofts. The five-floor building is just around the corner from Schaefer Park, and it contains 39 units with a range of amenities, including gas heating. All of the units are being sold as is and are move-in ready.

This development at 1610 W Fullerton offers a variety of different-sized units, from single bedroom condos to penthouse suites, but all units have a private balcony. The Fullerton Lofts also offer a fitness center, a rooftop sundeck, a party room, elevators, and storage available to all residents. The building also includes heated parking; most units come with at least one parking spot included in the purchase price. Some loft units are also two floors.
All listings in the Fullerton Loft range from a low $184K to $339K. CondoDomain also offers a cash rebate taken out of the buyer’s agent’s commission.

Every condo unit has at least one spa bathroom, and some of the larger units come with two full baths. The countertops are also granite, highlighting the luxury living available throughout the Fullerton Lofts.

The size of the kitchens in the Fullerton Lofts vary depending on the unit, but they all include a stainless steel microwave, oven/range, and refrigerator. All kitchens contain either maple or cherry cabinetry. Most kitchens also include a breakfast bar or an area for a dining room table. A washer and dryer is also included with the unit.

With floor-to-ceiling windows, the living room and bedroom offer amazing skyline views of Chicago. Hardwood floors do run throughout most of the rooms. Some bedrooms are already carpeted, again depending on the unit.

While there’s a rooftop deck accessible to all in the Fullerton Lofts, all units also have their own private balcony with either skyline or park views, offering multiple perfect places to grill out on those warm summer days.
Click here for all the available units in the Fullerton Lofts.
